Labor Day traditions

Today we took the kids and grandkids to what has become a family tradion. Every Labor Day a very small town nearby sponsors a Labor Day parade complete with picnic, and festivities afterwards. It was so good (as always) to have them stand with us and salute the American flag as it went by and waving and calling out, "Thank You!" to the WW2 uniformed vets, police officers and firemen. They won't learn THAT anywhere on TV, especially (and literally) today.

I consider it my God-given purpose and my duty to educate my grandchildren into knowing the freedom, security, and serenity I felt as a kid, with lots of good family, aunts, uncles, cousins, and traditions around all the time. Maybe someday when it has all faded away into this new worldly way of thinking, they will at least know how life once was back in the "good old days." Hopefully it will instill good family values and perhaps even spur them into fighting to keep trying to give some inkling of that freedom and history to their own children.

Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. Thanks, Mr. Scott, for teaching us that. I skipped a lot of your class, both mentally and physically, but see, I did remember a few things.

We have always been blessed with having wonderful neighbors, both when the girls were growing up and now. We feel like family to our neighbors we grew up with...it was like raising my kids while living next door to a sister. So our families are still "family", our grown kids love and care about each other, and my "sister" and "brother" still hold that same ranking. We enjoy our holidays together. Today was one of our "family" holiday gatherings, and though the little children in the group are now our grandkids, the only thing better would be if we could make more time to be together. Thank you, Masons, for adopting us into your family...we have had a lifetime of wonderful blessings by knowing and loving you and yours.
